Children and Play

A scientific study has confirmed that for children playing is very important for their physical and mental health. Amika Singh, a senior researcher at VU University in the Netherlands, reported that physical activity is associated with better academic performance, as measured by higher GPAs and better scores on standardized tests.

Studies showed that the more physical activity children had, the higher were their scores in school, particularly in the basic subjects of math, English and reading.

Almighty Allah mentioned children and play in the Koran in the famous historical story of prophet Jacob, when his sons asked him to take their brother Joseph to play with them as the Almighty says, “Send him with us tomorrow to enjoy himself and play, and verily, we will take care of him.” (Sura Yusuf, ayah 12)

Washing Hands to Protect Us from Bacteria

Recent researches state that simple and lowcost physical measures should be given higher priority in pandemic contingency plans. Almighty Allah orders us to make ablution five times a day.

Dozens of studies confirm that hand washing is the singlemost important prevention procedure in reducing the transmission of diseases such as diarrhea and many respiratory viruses. Muslims practicing this five times each day during ablution as Almighty Allah says, “O you who believe! When you intend to offer As Salat (prayer), wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to ankles.” (Sura Al Ma’idah, ayah 6)

Fruit before Meat

In the Koran, we find that on mentioning the food that the people of Paradise eat, Allah always mentions fruits first then meat. The great medical wisdom behind this order is that fruits contain simple, easy to absorb and digest sugars that are considered an essential source of energy for the human body and can therefore satisfy hunger quickly. On the contrary, if one starts with meat, the body will take around three hours to completely digest it. We can see how the ayat: “And with fruits, any that they may select and the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire.” (Sura AlWaqi’ah, ayat 20-21) indicate medical fact.

Getting up Early

A recent study has proven that getting up early before sunrise prolongs life, increases the activity of the body cells and improves man’s perception and his mental abilities.

Scientists say that sleeping for 6 hours between 10:00 pm and 4:00 am equals 12 hours of sleep during daytime. We glorify Allah, the Almighty, for Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to get up early in order to worship Allah and perform the dawn prayer.

Moreover, Allah, the Exalted, talks in the holy Koran about the significance of night for ideal and comfortable sleep and says that the night is a kind of robe for man that helps protect him from physical and psychological problems. Allah, the Great, says in the holy Koran, “And He it is Who makes the night as a robe for you, and sleep as repose, and makes the day (as it were) a resurrection.” (Sura Al-Furqan, ayah 47)

Prayer is a Cure for Diseases

Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) grieved due to a mishap, he would seek shelter in prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Know that prayer is the best of your deeds.” (Narrated by Ahmad)

Some doctors confirm that prayer protects against varicose veins, rejuvenates blood circulation and reestablishes the regulation of blood pressure throughout the body. Medical doctors say that a person who maintains his prayers avoids a lot of diseases such as osteoporosis and curvature of the spine. Prayer restores the body’s vitality and regulates the body’s internal operations.

Healing by Colours

Chromotherapy is an alternative medicine method for the relief of depression. Researchers confirm that looking at gardens makes brings one joy and that an hour’s meditation among colourful flowers and trees is an effective method for relieving depression, disappointment and other psychological problems. We can see that today’s science links an internal sense of happiness and the contemplation of nature.

The Koran eloquently related this fact in God’s words, as He says: “Is not He (the best) Who created the heavens and the earth and sends down for you water from the sky wherewith We cause to spring forth joyous orchards, whose trees have never been yours to cause to grow. Is there any God beside Allah? Nay, but they are folk who ascribe equals (unto Him)!” (Sura AnNaml, ayah 60)

Thus, see how the wonderful link was drawn in the Koran between the feeling of joy and orchards. The Koran mentioned this long before scientists of the East and the West ever did.
