Healthy Sleep Habits: How to Get Enough Sleep in Seven Hours

Healthy sleep is the key to well-being and the foundation for maintaining health and beauty.

With stress and overwork unfortunately becoming the norm these days, many of us face problems with insomnia and poor sleep. Let us look at a few simple habits that will help us get 7 hours of sleep and still feel refreshed and energetic.

A Comfortable Sleeping Atmosphere

First and foremost, create a comfortable environment in the bedroom. The room should be quiet, dark and cool. Use thick curtains or blinds to block out light from neighbors’ windows and streetlights. Some people use earplugs to block out noise but they can also be disruptive if you are not used to them. The optimal temperature for sleep is approximately 18–22 degrees Celsius.

It is important to choose a comfortable bed. The mattress and pillow should meet your individual needs. Try different options to find the most suitable one.

Sleep Schedule

A regular sleep schedule is one of the key factors for healthy rest. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends, if possible. This will help regulate your biological clock, “programming” it for better sleep.

Avoid Heavy Meals Before Bed

Overeating before bed is not recommended. Heavy meals can cause discomfort and contribute to sleep disruption. A light dinner a few hours before bed is optimal. Additionally, some advise against drinking caffeinated beverages and other stimulants before bed, but these have different effects on different people, so coffee or tea, for example, may not have much of an impact on sleep.

Bedtime Ritual

A calm activity repeated daily can help us relax and prepare for sleep. For example, reading a book, meditating, doing a favorite craft like knitting, or simply spending time in silence. This will help us switch off from everyday worries and prepare for rest.

Keep your cell phone away before bed!

Light from screens suppresses the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for sleep (audiobooks or paper books do not have this effect). Therefore, we try to limit the use of smartphones, tablets and computers about an hour before bed. Or at least set your devices to “night mode”, which reduces screen brightness and blue light.

Daytime Physical Activity

Regular exercise during the day can help improve the quality of sleep. However, intense exercise before bed can actually cause agitation and make it difficult to fall asleep. Therefore, it is best to exercise in the morning or a few hours before bedtime. You can choose walking, swimming, gymnastics, or dancing; the key is regularity and moderation.

Stress Management

Stress and emotional tension interfere with sleep and can even lead to insomnia. We use stress reduction techniques such as breathing exercises, yoga, meditation and reading light, positive texts. Sometimes it is helpful to keep a journal to express our thoughts and feelings. This helps us relax before bed and improve sleep quality.

Conclusion

Healthy sleep is the result not only of habits but also of our overall lifestyle. By following these simple recommendations, we can improve the quality of our sleep and wake up feeling rested and energised. Remember: every body is unique, so experiment with different approaches and find what works best for you.
