Why should we thank God?

Why should we thank God?

Why should we thank God?

Waking up in the morning in perfect health, in a comfortable bed and with his family, a person takes this for granted. However, everything we have is not our merit. Every second we bathe in the mercy of the Creator.

Healthy and prosperous people do not realize that the life they live is a dream for hundreds of thousands of other inhabitants of our planet, those who dream of waking up healthy and want to have a family that helps them... How many children dream of simply eating enough? How many homeless people are there on the streets? How many debtors are there on Earth? We can list this reality for a long time before finally being able to recognize the truth that many neglect: everything that we have is the mercy of our Lord and we are obliged to thank Him.

Man is created in such a way that he compares himself with those who live better than him and often forgets to thank the Almighty. But why do we not all start comparing ourselves with those who are worse than us, in order to realise and understand how merciful the Lord is to us and how well we live. Start thanking the Merciful and you will notice how He gives you even more.

First of all, give thanks that He has given us the opportunity to give thanks and turn to Him. Give thanks for what He did for the community of the last of the prophets, Muhammad ﷺ, for health, for family, for food and for home. Have gratitude for living in a peaceful, god-fearing community. We simply have thousands of reasons to tirelessly thank the Lord for what He has given us and saved us from.

Imam al-Ghazali said, “People are too weak and are not able to properly thank the Creator for the slightest benefit He has given to the human race. People are not capable of this even when they reach the highest degrees of diligence and ability. After all, being able to give thanks is another benefit from the Lord, for which you should also give thanks. So, you need to give thanks for every gift given, and then for the very opportunity to give thanks.”

The best way to give thanks is to understand that everything we have is the mercy of Almighty Allah. May the Lord make us one of His grateful servants. Amin.

Let the Soul Grow

Science surprisingly confirms the wisdom revealed 1,500 years ago in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. I was given another reason to reflect on this when reading an excerpt from a lecture by Carl Gustav Jung, the founder of analytical psychology.   The psychologist asks a question that...
