Justice as a fundamental value

Justice as a fundamental value

“The greatest trick is honesty and the greatest strength is justice.” Sheikh Ahmad Afandi

Justice implies giving everyone their due place and treating everyone equally. In terms of human qualities, justice includes such qualities as righteousness, a clear conscience, sincerity, and impartiality.

Justice is not only imposing a deserved punishment on someone who commits a crime but also giving a deserved reward to someone who does good. Almighty Allah is just and requires justice from all people.

For a believer who wants to please the Almighty, justice is a must. People feel safe around such a person, because where there is justice, there is security, mutual love, mercy, and strengthening of fraternal ties.

As we know from the history of Islam, many people followed the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) due to his absolute justice. Those around him, seeing what a fair and impartial person Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was, believed him and accepted his prophecy.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was a model of justice. His ideal justice surprised not only his contemporaries but also those who later became acquainted with his biography.

The Almighty gifted him with the highest level of justice, thanks to which he managed to turn people known in pre-Islamic Arabia as barbarians into wonderful people with pure morals and a high sense of justice.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) managed to introduce such justice among his followers that the most ordinary person could defend his right in an Islamic court and win a case, even if he was suing the ruler himself. To do this, he did not need to have power, connections or money. The judge always made a decision impartially.

Only by observing justice in relations with others, can a believer achieve happiness and success. Injustice and deception lead to disaster for both an individual and the entire society. Thanks to justice, honour, dignity and human rights, as well as well-being and order in society are preserved.

Unfortunately, in our time, noble morals and a sense of justice are not fully manifested. In particular, today, deception in trade has become widespread. Short-weighting and appropriation of other people’s property have become the norm for many who participate in trading.

People do not see anything reprehensible in this and engage in transactions that are forbidden from the point of view of religion, as if the sin for this were canceled. It seems that they have completely forgotten that Almighty Allah and His messengers called their people to honesty and justice, especially in trading relations.

Almighty Allah dedicated an entire Sura in the Koran to the harm of short-weighting in trade, in which He describes deceivers and their style of behavior. This indicates the importance of honesty and justice and the inadmissibility of deception in trading.

A believer must be fair in any situation. He must be fair even to those who show enmity towards him or to those towards whom he has purely human hostility. This is what religion demands of us.

From all of the above, it follows that justice from the point of view of Islam means that each person should receive what he truly deserves. At the same time, his inalienable rights and respect for him as a person must be observed.

This all applies to both Muslims and non-Muslims. A true believer in God shows justice, being confident that he will certainly be asked for all his actions on the Day of Judgment and will receive an appropriate reward.

Most of all, those who have power and responsibility for other people are obliged to observe justice. They must serve people in order to improve their situation, and not use their powers and administrative resources for personal purposes, turning it into a means of fulfilling their desires.

Islam also calls on parents to be fair to their children, managers to their subordinates, judges to make fair decisions and employers to create fair working conditions. If these principles are not followed, cruelty, lawlessness, uncertainty, chaos and turmoil may arise in society.

Dear brothers and sisters, be fair before Almighty Allah and He will consider you truthful and you will become the bestowed with happiness in worldly and eternal life, because this is where all good lies!
