Blessed days of dhul Hijjah

The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) declares the good deeds of 10 days of this month to be the most Superior. As transmitted from Ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with him) the Prophet said, “No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (fi rst ten days of Dhul Hijja).” Then some companions of the Prophet asked, “Not even Jihad?” He replied, “Not even Jihad, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (for God’s sake) and does not return with any of those things.” (Narrated by At-Tirmidhi).

Al-Bara’ bin ‘Azib (may God be pleased with him) narrated that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say when he gave a sermon (on the day of Eid al-Adha), “The first thing we will do on this day of ours, is to offer the (Eid) prayer and then return to slaughter the sacrifice. Whoever does so, has acted according to our Sunna (tradition).” (Narrated by Al-Bukhari).

Uqbah Ibn Amir (may God be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the day of Arafah (a day of fasting), the day of Sacrifice and the Ayam ul-Tashreeq are our days (for the people of Islam) (the latter two days are forbidden for fasting). Umar Ibn Khattab, Ali Ibn Abi Talib and Ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with them) said, “Recite the Takbeer from the Fajr of the day of Arafah until the ‘Asr of the last day of Ayam ul-Tashreeq (13th of DhulHijjah).

Takbeer Tashreeq is the recitation of Allahu akbar, La ilaha illa Llahu Wallahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillahil hamd after every obligatory prayer commencing from the dawn of the 9th of Dhul Hijjah until the Asr (afternoon prayer) of the 13th of Dhul Hijjah.
